What to Do in the Islands
If basking in the sun with a good book is your idea of the perfect holiday, indulge! But if you’re looking to pick up the pace, here’s just some of what we offer:
Snorkeling, Scuba Diving: Coral reefs, rock pinnacles, caverns and wrecks, plus a stunning array of tropical fish across 50 islands and 70 known sites, offers the most varied diving and snorkeling in the world. Magnetic Sky equips you to get under the water with our captain and dive master, Richard Clay. We can arrange dive gear rentals so everything is onboard when you arrive. If anyone in your party requires certification, we can arrange rendezvous diving and instruction according to your schedule. Also available onboard are the popular snuba which allows four people to dive to sixty feet without the hassle of tanks and compressors.
Wake Boarding, Tubing, Water Skiing: Take advantage of our 45 horse power dinghy and equipment to engage in your favorite water sports – or learn a new one. Warm, sunny weather, still clear bays, and 80 degree water – awesome.
Sailing: If you’re an old hand, take the wheel and feel the power of the wind in your sails. For novices, we offer instruction in the sailing basics. Richard can arrange for rental of sailing dinghies in the British Virgin Islands if you would like to learn the basics or brush up on your sailing skills.
Painting, Photography Workshops: Your chef and hostess, Eden Compton Clay, is also an accomplished artist, and offers instruction in plein air painting, sketching and pastel and oil painting. Work with Eden to capture some of the most beautiful spots in the Carribbean – perfect for budding or experienced artists. She is more than happy to accompany you on sketching or painting trips on any the islands we visit.
Biking: A great way to tour the BVI is by bicycle. Magnetic Sky comes equipped with two bicycles for those interested in a gentle ride through town. Experienced mountain bikers can tackle the steep terrain around Tortola with rentals that include helmet, lock, water bottle, pump and seat bag with patch kit.
Hiking: You won’t need to pack your mountain boots for hiking in the BVI, as most trails are easily accessible and require a good rubber-soled walking shoe. Sage Mountain National Park offers a cool misty semi-rain forest with exotic flora.
Fishing: Deep sea fishing charters can be booked separately from St. Maarten. Just let us know if you’re interested, and we can make the arrangements. We can also arrange fly fishing with Caribbean Fly Fishing in the BVI area.
